The Visionary Behind the Mission

Robert Roman, B.S., M.Ed.
Founder & President
Organics In America, S.A.

After many years of work in the Organic, Bio-Dynamic, and Natural Food industries in the US, Robert relocated to Costa Rica primarily for the climate. However, in his search for opportunities in CR, he discovered and purchased a small distributorship of organic & natural products for sale in the fall
of 2004. This was not only the birth of Organics In America S.A. but also his access to develop the organic industry throughout Central, South, and North America; to create a successful company within the natural food industry and to support his commitment to foster the prosperity of organic/biodynamic farmers and farms.

Robert’s involvement with the Organic industry started in 1974, with the raise of a hand as he volunteered to become the Coordinator of the Columbia Community Grocery in Columbia, MO. He soon took on a leadership role as Chairman of the Committee on Cooperatives, an Advisory Board to the Governor of MO. He participated in the formation of the National Cooperative Bank, the operations of the Ozark Cooperative Warehouse, and Project Taproot at the University of MO.

His experience encompasses the following:

• International Purchases & Sales
• Coordinating purchases of US finished goods for export &    distribution in Costa Rica
• Financials, new product introductions, and overall   management of OIA
• 45% growth and profitability in 2nd year
• Served 3 years as a Peace Corps primary & high teacher -   1969-1972
